Carver Elementary Expansion + celebrate Turns TWO!

Today is a big day for celebrate! RVA….

We are officially sharing with y’all that we are expanding our programming to Carver Elementary School so that we can celebrate 500 more children in the next school year. Carver sees a 99% poverty rate in student demographics serving Jackson Ward and Gilpin Court. They applied for our programming about a year ago, and we are thrilled to begin partying with our new friends! With all of our partners, we plan to celebrate more than a thousand children during the 2015-2016 school year. We can’t wait to multiply the joy and love in the Richmond community!

Celebrate RVA 3.20.15-94

I’m also pretty darn excited to announce that celebrate! RVA decided we needed our very own birthday celebration! On September 26th, 2015 we will gather together for an evening of fun to not only celebrate our 2nd birthday, but to raise funds so that we may continue to grow and celebrate even more kiddos! Tickets go on sale on July 20th and there may be a little surprise so be sure to follow us on Instagram and Facebook to stay up to date.

celebrate! RVA intern search

I consider myself pretty darn lucky to have the job I do. I love what I do and cherish each moment I get to spend celebrating birthdays.

This past January, though, I realized I could no longer do it all by myself. I needed help, and I wanted to share what it was like to run a start-up non profit with someone who may be interested in traveling down this same road one day. I started thinking about an intern, and in February, I hired my very first intern! I learned quite a bit from her and drew on my own experience as an intern to create the best program I could and to be the best boss I could be.

I’m delighted to share that I am officially on the search for another intern! If you believe in the power of celebration, and are a hard, dedicated worker, I’d love to see you apply.

Your duties will be outlined for you, but will mainly consist of administrative tasks, social media marketing, and helping to execute birthday parties. We are more than happy to discuss giving credit hours for students, please reach out and let’s chat! Otherwise, you can expect a commitment of about 6-10 hours a week.

This is a great opportunity to work alongside the leadership of celebrate! RVA, discover what it is like to work in the non-profit sector, and get an inside look into the Richmond Public Schools.

If you’re interested in applying or have any questions, please send an email to with some information about yourself along with your resumé!

April Birthday Party

Our April birthday party was the first one of 2015 where we weren’t all bundled up or stuck inside because of yucky weather!

All photos are courtesy of Ash Carr Photography, she’s so lovely and a joy to be around!

2S2A4185We have this new addition to our birthday parties, the candy skirt. It’s proven to be quite the hit — our children love taking a break from running around on the playground for a quick sugar fix!

This girl, goodness gracious. One of the sweetest hearts I’ve ever had the privilege of interacting with. She was so earnest, gracious, and kind to all her friends. She was constantly offering her help to them when we were making birthday hats, and always willing to share her crayons and stickers. Can I be her when I grow up?

We had some special volunteers from the UVA Alumni Club of Richmond during their Cavs Cares Month. Our kids had an awesome time playing with new friends!

I’d like to introduce y’all to an extra special friend of mine. This darling girl joins us at every birthday party — not as a guest, but as a volunteer. Two years ago, I met her when she came to her November birthday party and she hasn’t missed a party yet. Her help and dedication are so helpful and I always look forward to catching up with her. Her academics are always the center of our conversation, we always have certain incentives for her to do better and work towards a gift. We are currently trying to get some B’s to A’s before the end of the school year!

This is one of my new favorite pictures of our friends from Richmond Police Department. Such a different image than what is being splashed across the media these days. This is compassion, love, and celebration. This is one of the most powerful connections we have. As always, a huge thank you to the RPD for their continued dedication to celebrate! RVA.

Happy birthday, April babies!

volunteer appreciation 2015

celebrate! RVA volunteers are the backbone of our organization. They bring endless enthusiasm to birthday parties, ready to celebrate anyone and anything.

From Richmond Police Department to Randolph-Macon Football, to endless community volunteers, to University of Richmond Lacrosse. To the girl scout troops, to the Middle School at Steward School, to VCU Soccer, y’all support our birthday children in ways I could never put into words.Celebrate RVA 3.20.15-91

Spending time away from work, school, and social lives, you all dedicated yourself to spreading joy and celebration. You’ve become apart of our children’s lives, shaping the way they feel love and happiness. Whether its immediate or long term, you’ve impacted a childs life in capacities we may never know.Celebrate RVA 1.16.15-0636

You’ve blown out candles, you’ve taught them to throw a football, and you’ve show compassion and love for others.

Without you, we could simply be a group with a passion for celebrating birthdays. With you, we are actively celebrating Richmond’s most deserving children. With you, we are growing non-profit, planning to celebrate more than a thousand birthdays in the next year alone. With you, we are celebrate! RVA.

Thank you.
